Mobile Payments & Mobile Cash Access: How Smartphones Activate Advanced Functionality at ATMs
Cash access through ATMs has been limited to network-registered cards using magnetic stripes and PINs; this all changes with Mobile Cash Access (MCA). Now it is possible to use a smart phone app to activate advanced functionality at ATMs. MCA is disruptive technology because authentication credentials can be controlled by the issuer of the smart phone app without participation by the card associations; creating the potential to dramatically disrupt the existing value chain, and provide new branding and product development opportunities. MCA allows the consumer to initiate ATM transactions “in the privacy of their own phone” at home, in the car, while in line, etc., virtually eliminating the risk of card skimming or PIN shoulder surfing. MCA provides a differentiated ‘plus one’ feature for traditional funding accounts, as well as opens up new markets for funding accounts that don’t typically issue debit cards. MCA can leverage the same strong multi-factor user authentication credentials (user name, password, device fingerprint, etc.) that funding account processors control today for online and mobile applications, thus eliminating the dependencies and limitations of card association-controlled account number schemes, authentication credentials and their associated interchange costs and royalties (for both magnetic stripe and/or NFC chips, etc.). MCA can play a pivotal role in the development of mobile payments at the physical point of sale while also avoiding large capital expenditures to upgrade ATM machines.
Independent consultants will provide an unbiased assessment of the business drivers in mobile commerce from an ATM stakeholder’s perspective. Using an objective evaluation framework the consultants will also lead an interactive presentation using generic smart phone apps to demonstrate the potential for mobile cash access and how ATM deployers can play in mobile payments to help attendees visualize what should be a part of their own mobile strategy.

Harnessing the Underbanked with the Power of the ATM
There are 2.4B unbanked/underbanked consumers world-wide, including 17 Million US adults. These consumers will have 1.7 Billion mobile phones by 2012, a majority of which are Gen Y (the only cash growth segment). Cash still represents 36% of their payments, and this group can hold the keys to new ATM growth. This session will examine the new programs and technologies that will drive these consumers to the ATM. The audience will learn how to identify the target markets, how to seize the opportunity, the pitfalls, and the keys to success.

Long Live the ATM: With or Without Traditional Plastic Cards
With the payments industry abuzz about P2P online payments, mobile phones being used as payment devices, near field communications, cardless ATM transactions, and more., concern has been expressed about what it all means for the Independent ATM Deployer (IAD). IADs are asking "If cardholders no longer carry cards, are ATMs going to go away? Will there no longer be a need for cash?" Emerging technology is making these types of transactions possible and tends to be perceived by consumers as “cool”, but security and practicality must be considered into the equation. In this session, learn how to navigate the waters of these emerging technologies and how to not only "keep up", but how to leverage them into new revenue streams for your business.

Ten Immutable Laws of ATM Software Security Microsoft’s “Ten Immutable Laws of Security” first penned in 2000, offer some key insights for ATM deployers. From a security perspective, ATMs have much in common with other IT systems when it comes to strategies and tactics in protecting against fraud. Still, no software patch by itself will ever protect ATMs from all security issues. In this session, the presenters will synthesize ATMIA’s new Best Practices for Software Security with Microsoft’s “Ten Immutable Laws”, offering a unique perspective on protecting the security of our ATM systems.

- Peter Kulik, Vice President, Product Innovation and Strategy, Vantiv, LLC

Breakout Session #10
What to Watch Out for When You To Go Wireless: A Definitive Checklist for ATM Operators
Deploying ATMs can be quick, simple and cheap. But wait. There are several points that banks and IADs need to look for before selecting the right cellular connectivity provider. These points are vital for the ATM Operators to ensure avoiding network security attacks and maintaining compliance such as PCI DSS. These points also cover how to keep the cost as low as possible by minimizing the data traffic. Meeting these criteria makes the investment cost effective. Based on presenter’s extensive experience in providing security and cellular connectivity in the ATM industry, this presentation describes key issues that banks and IADs needs to check. Whether to check off the list would make significant differences in level of security and costs of operating ATMs.

Next Gen Self-Service Financial Services: Changing the Game for the American Emerging Market
Advanced function ATMs and financial services kiosks are no longer the cutting edge. But as the financial crisis continues, more than 1 in 4 American adults relies more on cash and less on banks and represent a trillion dollar market. Retailers, convenience stores, alternative financial services providers, bodegas, banks, credit unions and others are exploring new ways to reduce costs and take advantage of a new generation of self-service. The key ideas that will drive success in this evolving market place are relationships (vs transactions), integration (vs a la carte) and multi-modality (vs single-mode).

Improving Your ATM Customer Impact
Self service devices have changed the way we all interact with our customers. The traditional methodology of managing to a defined availability while at one point was effective has been eclipsed in today’s environment. A growing number, increased variety and sophistication of self service devices that are used by your customers has driven a need for new device management methodologies. To be successful you need to understand how and when your customers are using your devices. You need to leverage intelligent fault management solutions that can manage multiple device types, prioritize faults based on day of week and time of day, and manage sites automatically and intelligently. Doing all of this will allow you to maximize the customer experience, lower your costs and increase availability.
